You think, as you look up at the mountain, from the car, that it is between heaven and earth and that it hangs above the village of Karitsa in the Nevropolis Municipality of Agrafon. It is about the Holy Monastery of Panagia Pelekiti, a beautiful post-Byzantine monument, with a unique and remarkable architecture, built on a steep rock, 1,400 meters above sea level, on a steep slope of the mountain peaks of Agrafo.
Today, the Monastery receives, mainly in the autumn and spring months, visitors from all over the country, while the restoration efforts made in recent years are important, bringing impressive results to its architecture. The monument is accessible by car and the visitor reaches it after an amazing route through the greenery and the unique beauties that the entire area offers.
From the Holy Monastery, where even when hot conditions prevail on the plain – the wind up there is strong – one gazes at Lake Plastira, while in the background the Thessalian plain, Mount Kissavos and further to the right, the heights of Domokos can be seen.
