July 11, 2026 · 1 min read

The Patriarch of Serbia Mr. Porfirios met yesterday, Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade, with Ms. Matilda Mord, Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in the Republic of Serbia. The Primate of the Orthodox Church in Serbia presented to the chosen guest the difficult situation, the great challenges and pressures faced by the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.

Thanking Ms Mord for her visit, His Beatitude emphasized that the Serbian Orthodox Church, remaining faithful to its evangelical call, strives to bear witness to the values of peace, understanding and brotherly love between people and nations in a modern world full of challenges and upheavals. The Patriarch of Serbia also emphasized that the Church of Saint Sava fulfills this mission mainly through caring for people, especially the poor, the sick, refugees and all those in need.

Ms. Mord introduced the Patriarch to the work and activities of the United Nations system, especially the projects implemented in the Republic of Serbia, but also the wider involvement of this international…

Yeah, it's good the Patriarch laid out the real pressures on our people in Kosovo and Metohia—those empty churches and families that left aren't abstract numbers. The Church's work with refugees and the poor is what actually reaches folks on the ground, not just UN reports. Hope Mrs. Mord took notes and follows through.

The empty churches really hit home—my cousin’s family left their village near Pec years ago and still talks about it like it was yesterday. Glad the Patriarch kept the focus on concrete help for the refugees instead of just politics. Did Mrs. Mord say anything back about what the UN might actually do there?
