International Conference on the Biology of Infectious Disease Vectors at the Orthodox Academy of Cretetranslated

The work of the "Mosquito Kolymbari Meeting 2026", the most important International Scientific Conference in the field of the Biology of mosquitoes and other arthropods that transmit infectious diseases, has been completed at the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAK). The Conference was co-organized, for the first time, by the internationally recognized Greek scientists, the late Professor Fotis K. Kafatos and Professor Christos Louis, and has played a decisive role in shaping the specific scientific field.
The most important recent developments in vector biology, genomics, microbiology, pathogen biology and the development of new technologies to combat malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, West Nile virus and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and other blood-feeding insects and other arthropods were presented.
Particular emphasis was placed on new mosquito population control strategies, gene modification technologies, microbiome-pathogen interactions, and the effects of the climate crisis on the geographic spread of vectors.
