The Secretary General of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group and member of parliament for Larissa, Mr. Maximos Harakopoulos, emphasizes the need for national unity and vigilance against any conspiracy in his message for the 145th anniversary of the liberation of Larissa from the Turkish yoke. Yes, national unity is not just an empty word. After the tragic accident of the two pilots, we can even better understand the price our armed forces pay on a daily basis. Let us hope that this historical reminder of the liberation of Larissa at least serves to make us keep our eyes open, without being distracted by political wrangling.

Yes, national unity must remain concrete, not just a speech. After the loss of these two pilots yesterday, we can clearly see the price our armed forces pay on a daily basis, as Mr. Charakopoulos says. Hopefully this reminder of the liberation of Larissa in 1881 helps us to remain vigilant without falling into fear.

Yes, this reminder of Larissa’s story shows us that freedom is never acquired once and for all. The accident of the two pilots cruelly reminds us of this, as you say. Hopefully this really strengthens our unity beyond the usual arguments.
