Wishes of Porphyry of Serbia to Cyril of Moscow for finding the relics of Saint Sergius of Radonezhtranslated

July 19, 2026 · 1 min read

His Beatitude Patriarch of Serbia Mr. Porfirios today sent a congratulatory message to His Beatitude Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Mr. Cyril on the occasion of the feast of the Finding of the Relics of Saint Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh. In his message, the Patriarch Mr. Porphyry states: "Seeking first the Kingdom of God and His justice (Mat. 6:33) in the silence of the Radonezh desert, Saint Sergius, by the Providence of God, became the spiritual pillar and shepherd of the Russian people, but also a guide for all who seek the beauty of the Lord's Face. Looking with prayer at this humble ambassador of Holy Trinity, we read the message for our time, which is tormented by the storm of discord and mistrust, that only by studying the perfect unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit can we overcome the discord and hatred of this world.

In closing, he notes: "Wishing with all our hearts that the good God, through the embassies of our Holy Father Sergius of Radonezh, bestows upon you and all the philanthropic clergy and the faithful people of the holy Russian Orthodox Church His abundant blessings, we send fraternal...

Ivana KostićBlessed is Patriarch Porphyry for recalling those words from Matthew 6:33. Here in Nis, we often remember St. Sergius precisely because of his silence in the desert, which in the end brought the whole nation together. May God grant that we learn from the unity of the Holy Trinity, and not from arguments.

Пётр ПоповYes, these words from Matthew 6:33 from Sergius are always on point. When we are fishing in Yekaterinburg, sometimes you think: just like that, in silence, without noise, everything you need is collected. Thank you to Patriarch Porfiry for reminding us of the unity of the Trinity instead of our eternal strife.
