In the aftermath of the great feast of the Dormition, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestia and Soufli Mr. Damasquinos, the day after the feast, Sunday 16 August 2026, officiated at the Holy Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in Sitochori, flanked by the High Priestly Commissioner Didymoteichos Archimandrite Kyrillos Koltsidis, the vicar of the parish and his deacons. On the occasion of the upcoming holiday, His Holiness, preaching the Divine Word, emphasized:

"The Dormition of the Virgin that we celebrated yesterday is a matter of universal spiritual joy. This solemn holiday becomes the Easter of our faith, that is, a spiritual passage to the land of endless hope. The Dormition of the Virgin is life-giving, as in Her most blessed person the conditions of transitory nature have been defeated and "life is promised death". Celebrating Her light-bearing Ascension and her Ascension to the Heavens, we live empirically, as members of the Holy Body of Christ, the Church, the power and the hopeful perspective of the mystery of the Resurrection and we confess the "in a body" all-illuminated and accrued presence of our Virgin Mary in Heaven, close to Her Only Begotten Son, from...
