I'm not sure if this prioritization of the economy will help us much when the children finish school. Here, my granddaughter now goes to religious studies in Niš, but when she comes home she asks me why it is not compulsory like mathematics. If Bishop Avxentius said that we are still far from the Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture becoming mandatory, then it is clear that something must change, otherwise we will only be left with empty pews in the church.

Snezana, your granddaughter from Niš has the right to ask - religious studies is interesting to her, and mathematics is compulsory. However, I think that coercion in school would not solve the empty desks; here in Podgorica, children come to lessons when their parents lead them and explain why it is important. What do you think, would a compulsory subject change something at home or would it just cause more resistance?

Snezana, your granddaughter from Niš is a good question, but I see that here in Podgorica, children remember mostly what their grandmother or grandfather shows them at home, and not what is imposed on them at school. I showed my granddaughter how to cut a cloth cross, so it stuck in her head more than ever. Do you think that parents would work more on their own with their children if they relied less on the school?

Oui, Snežana, ta petite-fille de Niš pose une bonne question. Chez nous à Paris, mes deux enfants ont suivi le catéchisme à la paroisse rue Daru, mais c’est surtout en préparant les koliva avec moi à la maison qu’ils ont vraiment compris pourquoi c’est important. L’économie passe avant tout, comme dit l’évêque, mais une grand-mère qui montre concrètement reste irremplaçable.
