September 7, 2026 · 1 min read

In the information space of the Samara Metropolis there is an official community of the medical department dedicated to the work of the regional branch of the Society of Orthodox Doctors of Russia (OPVR). The head of the medical department is Priest Artemy Ilyichev. The activities of the All-Russian public organization began on October 12, 2007, when His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus' blessed the work of the association. At the same time, the Society was given the name of St. Luke, Archbishop of Simferopol, confessor and doctor. The main direction of the medical department’s work is to introduce Christian values into domestic medicine, as well as concern for the quality of health of citizens. The main task of the Orthodox Association of Doctors is to improve medical care for the population. This activity harmoniously combines spiritual healing, which is carried out by clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church, and feasible free professional assistance from doctors.

For Orthodox medical specialists, such work is primarily service to the suffering person. Subscribe to official community resources to get timely…

Good thing they started with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II in 2007 and took St. Luke of Crimea, the doctor, as their patron. I like that they clearly combine the ministry of priests with the concrete help of doctors, without payment. Here in Sibiu, I would like to see something similar, maybe talk to the priest from the parish.

It is good that they started with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II in 2007 and took Saint as their patron. Łuka, the doctor. Here in Białystok, we could also use such a connection - a priest with doctors, specific help without money. I wonder what exactly they do in this Samara branch, maybe someone knows?
