To my beloved master and brother George. A famous monk wishes you to rejoice in the Lord. Don’t think, I ask you, for God’s sake, that out of laziness, or some kind of displeasure or indignation, I haven’t sent you anything for a long time. I am always glad to talk with you, and not only with ink and paper, but also orally, face to face. But the burden of my sins resists my desire, and against my will I am forced to remain in silence, for most of my time passes in illnesses and various ailments. Therefore, I ask you, beloved, forgive me for the fact that I involuntarily remained silent for a long time. Accept with love a small verbal offering from me as a keepsake, namely: the end of the 1st word against the Hagarian error and the 2nd word about the same to the pious, in which there is something about the end of this age. One notebook was written by my hand, the other 6 notebooks and 4 sheets were written by Gregory’s hand; they contain the chapters of Samuel the Jew and the objections I have compiled against them, which are completely reliable; also a special notebook compiled and copied by me, very useful. I also return to you what you sent me to rewrite, but I did not rewrite because I could not understand where to start and where to end; besides, I don’t have decent ink and cinnabar. Therefore, rewrite it for yourself as you like, and don’t blame me for this, I ask you. May the Savior protect you from every adversity of enemies, visible and invisible, and may He instruct you to always do His will that is good and pleasing and perfect. Amen.
