I would pay dearly for the pleasure of seeing your regularity, my most venerable lord - you know this even without our letter, since you well know what love we have for your venerability. But since this is impossible (due to the distance, due to our lack of freedom to travel wherever we wish, and finally, due to the increasing fear caused by the Isaurian raids every day), I earnestly ask your nobility to please us as often as possible with what constitutes our greatest consolation amid loneliness, deprivation, and all other sorrows of this life, and to constantly notify us about your health, as well as the health of your entire house. True, we cannot enjoy this joy with complete contentment, because rarely does anyone travel here from you. But, although what we ask is difficult, please try as much as possible and constantly inform us of your well-being. We inform you that we are currently living completely calmly and peacefully, enjoying complete leisure in moderate health, and if anything especially worries us, it is only separation from you, from the people who love us. But your prudence can, in the above-mentioned way, alleviate this last grief for us. Do such a favor that we will be able, despite the long distance between us, to feed on your sweet, warm and sincere love.
