Глава XXIX. Об ипостаси, ипостасном и неипостасном

The word "hypostasis" (ὑποστασις) has two meanings. Taken in a general sense (απλως), it means substance in general. In its proper sense, “hypostasis” means the individual, as well as any individual person. In the same way, the word “hypostatic” (ενυποστατον) has two meanings, for it also means being in general - in this sense we call hypostatic not only substance in general, but also accidents; but it also means a separate hypostasis, or individual. The word "non-hypostatic" (ανυποστατον) also has two meanings. That which has never existed in any way is also called non-hypostatic; Accident is again called non-hypostatic, since accident does not have independent existence, but exists in substance.
