Gen.3:1. “And the serpent was wiser than all the animals on earth.” Instead of the word “wise” in the Hebrew text there is arum (עָר ֔ וּם), which Aquila and Theodotion translated as πανοῦργο ϛ, that is, “worthless” and “feigned.” Thus, this word depicts cunning and cunning rather than wisdom. Gen.3:8. “And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden at evening.” In most Latin books, instead of what I put here (“in the evening”), it is written “after noon.” The fact is that we cannot accurately translate the Greek word τὸ δειλιν ό ν. Instead, the Hebrew text says laruah aiom (לְר֣וּחַ הַיּ֑וֹם), which Aquila translated as ἐν τῷ ἀνέμ ῳ τῆς ἡ µ έρας, that is, “at daylight” wind,” and Symmachus - διὰ πνεύματο ϛ ἡ µ έρας, that is, “in the breath of the day.” In turn, Theodotion translated more clearly: ἐν τῷ πνεύματι πρὸ ϛ κατάψυξιν τῆ ϛ ἡ µ έρας to depict the coolness of the blowing breeze when the midday heat. Gen.3:14. “On your chest and on your belly you will crawl.” “Belly” was added by Seventy Interpreters. And in the Hebrew text there is only the word “breast” to expose the cunning and resourcefulness of the serpent’s thoughts and the fact that all his movements are meanness and seduction. But in the next expression (“the earth you will eat”) instead of earth it is written aphar ( עָפָ ֥ ר ), which we can render as “dust” and “dust.” Gen.3:15. “He will watch your head, and you will watch his heel.” The Hebrew text says it better: “He will trample on your head, and you will trample on his heel.” After all, the serpent also hinders our progress, and “the Lord will soon put Satan under our feet.” Gen.3:16. “By multiplying I will multiply your sorrows and your groans.” Instead of the words “sorrow” and “groan,” the Hebrew text says “suffering” and “conception.” “And your address is to your husband.” Instead of “conversion,” Aquila translated “communication,” and Symmachus translated “attraction” or “desire.” Gen.3:17. “Cursed is the earth because of your deeds.” Works here do not mean cultivating the land, as many people think, but sins. This is what the Hebrew text says. And Aquila does not contradict this: “Cursed is the earth because of you,” also Theodotion: “Cursed is Adam for your crime.” Gen.3:20. “And Adam called his wife the name Life, because she is the mother of all living.” It is shown why she was called “Eve”, that is, “life”: because she is the mother of all living things. After all, “Eve” is translated as “life.” Gen.3:24. “And He expelled Adam and made him live opposite the paradise of pleasure. And he placed a cherub and a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life." The meaning in the Hebrew text is completely different from what is understood here. Because it says: “He (that is, the Lord) drove out Adam. And he arranged so that in front of the paradise of pleasure there would be a cherub and a flaming revolving sword to guard the way to the tree of life.” He did not force Adam himself, whom God expelled, to live in front of the paradise of pleasure, but He placed a cherubim with a flaming sword in front of the gates of paradise to guard the entrance to it after the expulsion of Adam, so that no one could enter.
