1. They told the following about Abba Dioscorus: He, silent in his cell, mourned himself. His disciple lived in another cell. When a student came to the elder and found him crying, he asked: “Father! The elder answered: “I cry for my sins.” The student objected: “You have no sins.” The elder answered: “Be sure, my son: if I saw all my sins, then my own crying would be insufficient; I would need many helpers in order to mourn them properly” 253. 2. Abba Dioscorus said: “If we put on heavenly clothing, then we will not find ourselves naked. If we do not have this garment on us, what will happen to us, brethren? We will hear a menacing voice commanding: “Take him and throw him into total darkness” (Matthew 22:13). Great shame will come upon us if, after wearing the holy monastic image for so long, we find ourselves in the hour of need not having the wedding robe. Oh, how we will repent then!” 254.
