Glorifying the providence of the Lord in people through Joshua, Caleb, pious judges and the prophet Samuel. Sir.46:1 Joshua was strong in battle and was the successor of Moses in prophecy. Sir.46:2 According to his name, he was great in the salvation of God's elect, when he took revenge on the rebel enemies in order to bring Israel into his inheritance. 2. True to his name, he was great in saving God's elect. The name "Jesus" means "savior". When he took revenge on the rebel enemies, i.e. exterminated the pagan population of Canaan. Bringing Israel into the inheritance of the Promised Land. Sir.46:3 How famous he became when he raised his hands and stretched out the sword against the cities! Sir.46:4 Who stood like this before him? For he fought the battles of the Lord. Sir.46:5 Was it not by his hand that the sun was stopped, and one day was made as it were two? Sir.46:6 He cried out to the Most High Master when his enemies oppressed him on all sides, and the great Lord heard him: Sir.46:7 He threw hailstones with mighty force against the hostile people and destroyed the opponents on the mountainside, Sir.46:8 so that the pagans might know his armor, that his war was before the Lord, and he only followed the Almighty. Sir.46:9 And in the days of Moses he showed good deeds, he and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, in that they opposed the hostiles, kept the people from sin and calmed the evil murmur. Sir.46:10 And they, only two of the six hundred thousand who traveled, were saved to bring the people into an inheritance - a land flowing with milk and honey. 9–10. Wed. Number 14:1–9, 26:62–65. Sir.46:11 And the Lord gave Caleb strength, which remained in him until his old age, to ascend to the height of the earth, and his seed received an inheritance, Sir.46:12 so that all the children of Israel may see that it is good to follow the Lord. 11–12. Sir.46:14 Let their bones flourish from their place, Sir.46:15 And let their name pass on to their sons for their glorification! Sir.46:16 Samuel, the prophet of the Lord, beloved by his Lord, established a kingdom and anointed kings for his people; 16. Wed. 1 Sam. VIII-X:1. Sir.46:17 He judged the people according to the law of the Lord, and the Lord looked upon Jacob; Sir.46:18 By his faith he was a true prophet, and the truth of the vision was revealed in his words. Sir.46:19 He cried out to the Almighty Lord, when his enemies pressed him from everywhere, and sacrificed a young lamb - Sir.46:20 And the Lord thundered from heaven and made His voice audible with a great noise, Sir.46:21 And he destroyed the leaders of Tire and all the princes of the Philistines. Sir.46:22 Even before the time of his eternal rest, he testified before the Lord and His anointed: “I did not take property, not even shoes, from anyone,” and no one reproached him. Sir.46:23 He prophesied even after his death, and predicted his death to the king, and in prophecy he lifted up his voice from the earth, that the lawless people would be destroyed.
