This “Manual” is a necessary addition to the similar “Guide to the Biblical History of the Old Testament” published earlier, and therefore it is compiled according to exactly the same plan and pursues the same goals. In compiling both of these manuals, we used everything we know best in the biblical historical literature of the present time; but in particular, the compilation of this manual was greatly facilitated for us by the fact that we had not only at our fingertips, but also in a clear mind the major works of the famous English theologian that we had just translated, which exactly coincided with the content of our book. They contain such a wealth of biblical-historical knowledge that we could freely draw from them everything that corresponded to the content and purpose of our manual, although the attentive reader will not fail to notice a significant difference in our treatment of many essential points of New Testament history.
Having thus completed the work, which required quite a lot of effort to carry it out in the plan and spirit intended, the author, with a relieved soul, presents it to the enlightened attention and judgment of all who in one way or another sympathize with the spread of biblical and historical knowledge in our society.
