The work of Maxim the Greek is multifaceted, and not all of its aspects, naturally, could be studied with the necessary completeness. The work is devoted to the study mainly of the earliest sources dating back to the second quarter - mid-16th century. Only the main body of works belonging to this author will be analyzed. The most significant directions for further research are, in our opinion, the following. 1. Edition of works carried out at the level of modern archeography. I works should be arranged chronologically and provided with scientific commentary. Collections edited by the author himself can become a reliable basis for such a publication. 2. Studying the worldview of Maxim the Greek in its entirety, especially his political and religious-philosophical views; A more interesting study of the latter was undertaken by J. Haney, but the possibilities of the topic have not yet been exhausted. It seems important to analyze the worldview precisely as a system, individual aspects of which, i.e., the author’s views on various problems in a certain period, are in a state of internal dependence and interdependence. A necessary component of such a study is to identify the ideological sources of the writer, i.e., the traditions of Byzantine literature, ancient heritage, and the influence of Western European humanism. 3. Study of the translation activity and lexicographic practice of Maxim the Greek, their place in the history of Russian culture; This means both his translations and an extensive glossary for the psalter (based on the GBL manuscript, Troitsk. 315), as well as the texts of his own writings. 4. The definition of a book-writing scriptorium, in which lifetime collections of essays were created, corrected by the hand of the author. 5. Analysis of the Tales of Maxim the Greek, their origin, testing of I. Denisov’s hypothesis about their authors. 6. Studying the fate of the handwritten heritage of Maxim the Greek and its role in the ideological struggle of subsequent times; Of particular interest here is the history of the compilation of the largest collections of works - Trinity, Synodal, 151 chapters, Old Believer, comparison of lists of different collections belonging to the same period. An important task is also the attribution of texts included in later collections.
