“A married man is concerned about the things of the world, how to please his wife” (1 Cor. 7:33), and not about the things of the Lord, not about pleasing the Lord most of all. A married person connects his will with the will of his wife, but what is this will? ABOUT! Experience says that the will of a spouse is often contrary to both the will of the spouse and the will of God: deign to please your beloved spouse and, out of love for her, break the commandments of God, deign to drink with her the cup of earthly vanity to the dregs and refuse God’s supper; but no - if you do not want to serve vanity with her and destroy your soul, she will deprive you of her love - and strife and strife will ensue. Oh! How many married people are really forced to say to the Lord, who invites us into His eternal kingdom: I got married and therefore cannot come. I can’t come because I have to please my wife, her desires and whims, which have become law for me. So why not get married, some will say? No, no one says this: “not everyone can receive this word... He who can receive it, let him receive it” (Matthew 19:11, 12). Please your wife, but not in that which harms the salvation of your soul, but not in that which is contrary to the will of God.
