May every soul who seeks knowledge of the Divine be comforted if it has such an eye that it can seek it and see it invisible to the senses, and if, while searching, it can, according to the Scriptures, dwell with the One Himself sought. For it is written: If you urgently ask, then turn and come (Isa. 21:12). It comes when it seeks with faith. For although it happens that one does not find one, one does not move away from dwelling in faith and the One sought, but speaks with blessed David: Thy knowledge is marvelous to me: powerful, I cannot comprehend it! (Ps. 139:6); and with the Father of the one who was possessed in the new moon 20: I believe, Lord! help my unbelief (Mark 9:24 and Matthew 17:15) (4). Besides blessed Peter and John, there were other disciples of the Lord, who, while constantly growing and succeeding in this life, were nevertheless confident in the superiority of the knowledge given to the future age. And after they have proven themselves worthy of the election of the Lord, of being with the Lord, of His apostleship, of the distribution of Spiritual gifts, after they have heard: it has been given to you to know the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 13:11), after such knowledge, after the revelation of mysteries to them, ineffable for others, still just before the suffering of the Lord, they finally hear: I still have much to tell you; but now you cannot contain it (John 16:12). From this and similar things we understand that the inspired Scripture knows both the infinity of knowledge and the incomprehensibility of the Divine mysteries for human nature in this life, because although to each, as he progresses, more and more knowledge is continually added, yet in all knowledge never reaches perfection until the perfect comes, when that which is in part ceases (1 Cor. 13:10 ) (5).
