Chapter 86

Ps.86:1. Son of Korah psalm song. And this psalm is again sung by the sons of Korah about the Church, preaching in it the calling of the Gentiles, and also that the Only Begotten will shine in the Church according to the dispensation of the incarnation. Ps.86:2. Its foundations are on the mountains of His saints, that is, the people called through faith. They understand that the pagan people were founded on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the villages of Jacob. “The Gates of Zion” refers to the preliminary and initial teaching of the Church, and “the villages of Jacob” – the subordinate ministry. Therefore, he says that living the gospel is more pleasing to God than serving under the law. Ps.86:3. Glorious words were spoken about you, the city of God. "Grad" is the Church. What glorious thing was said about her except that the Only Begotten will dwell in her, according to what was said: “I will dwell here as I will” (Ps. 131:14)? Ps.86:4. I will mention Rahab and Babylon. “I will preserve the good memory,” he says, of those who turn to Me, although previously they indulged in excess of voluptuousness and served idols. For the Psalmist makes this clear by naming Rahab and Babylon. And behold the foreign women, and Tire, and the people of Ethiopia. This word clearly teaches us that the Church is made up of all nations. Ps.87:5. Mati Zion says: man, and man is born in him, that is, in Zion, called mother; It is obvious that we who have believed will be added to Zion, that is, to the Church, in which is Man, or the One who founded it; and this is for our sake, having become man and having made the promise that the Church would be founded on rock. Ps.86:6. The Lord tells the story in the writings of people and princes. That is, the Lord will tell about the writings of those people and princes who will belong to the Church itself. What scripture is it about? Is it not about writing “in heaven,” which He Himself will tell them about, saying: “Rejoice, for your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20)? Ps.86:7.
