Chapter 129

The eleventh canto contains the prayer of the martyrs and the teaching of confession to the new people. He clearly preaches the purification that is Christ. For it is said about Him: “And He is the cleansing for our sins” (1 John 2:2). Ps.129:1. From the depths I cried to You, Lord. Ps.129:2. May Your ears be attentive to the voice of my prayer. We also imagine the Angelic powers with the ears of God; through them our prayers ascend to God. Ps.129:3. If you see iniquity, Lord, Lord, who will stand? The repetition of the word: “Lord, Lord” expresses surprise at the greatness of God’s love for mankind; With Him, says the prophet, and purification, and not in our merits. Ps.129:5. For Thy name's sake I have suffered Thee, O Lord. These are words not for the sake of spiritual need, but for the sake of the most venerable Name of those who approach, and then “with patience for the task that lies ahead” (Heb. 12:1), and at no time departing from God and from what is pleasing to Him. Ps.129:6. From the morning watch until the night, let Israel trust in the Lord. One must rely on the Lord even during sad circumstances. For not only in the morning watch, when objects are unclearly visible and our circumstances are gloomy, but also when the true light shines, the perspicacious mind receives from God an increase in the joyful and liberation from the sad. Let him trust in the Lord, because in Him, as in the source, and with Him is mercy, He is deliverance and cleansing, He completely satisfactorily cleanses sins. You might be interested in:
