Chapter 125

The seventh song is sung by those who are assured of their deliverance; because they are already in the city itself. They also beg for others who are still in Babylon, so that they too may be delivered. Ps.125:1. Sometimes the captivity of Zion would be returned to the Lord as a consolation. It is the Apostles who prophesy about themselves and about the Gentile faithful. For in the days of David there was no captivity. Therefore, perhaps, of course, spiritual captivity. For the word “rekut” (Ps. 126:2) points prophetically to the future. Ps.125:2. Then they shout among the nations: The Lord has magnified him. This showed that we are very deplorable to everyone. For everyone marvels at the great works of God, because God delivered us from that bitter slavery. And we cry out (because we are not insensitive), although the other brothers for whom we ask have not been returned to us, saying: Ps.125:4. return, O Lord, our captivity, like the floods of the south. This shows that the largest number of Israelites remained in Babylon, which is why their return is likened to the flow of the Egyptian river. For he calls the desert “south.” ******** Ps.125:5.
