Chapter 107

Ps.107:1. Song of Psalm to David. And in this psalm the coming of the Lord is preached, precisely to the pagans. But since all the verses of this psalm have already been explained in the previous psalms, it would be unnecessary to repeat the same thing again in explanation of the proposed psalm. Ps.107:2. My heart is ready, O God. Ps.107:3. Arise, my glory. And his glory is a speculative and active ability, conducive to moral and business virtue. Ps.107:5. For Your mercy is great above the heavens. So great is Your mercy that it exceeds the heights of heaven, and the rays of Your truth quickly spread everywhere, because the prophets, apostles and teachers will water the earth with its dew. Ps.107:6. Ascend to heaven, O God. From the beginning to this expression, the psalm is similar to Ps.56, and from here to the end - with Ps.59, and what should have been said has already been said. Ps.107:8. I will ascend and divide Sikima. What the Jews had that was best and most excellent, he joyfully promises to divide and distribute as an inheritance to the pagans. For like a good father he rejoices when he receives and acquires many sons. He says this allegorically and mysteriously. In the pagan vale was this city called Shechem or Sikima. Jacob settled here with his children after leaving Mesopotamia. Here Emmor, the son of Shechem, having fallen in love with Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, kidnapped and corrupted her. The sons of Jacob came and put him and all his people to death. Thus Sikima, “the land of villages,” became the possession of the patriarch. Why did Jacob, when dividing the land to his children, allocate this city, as the best plot, to Joseph, because he, due to his youth, did not participate with his brothers in the murder. That is why he gives the promise to divide and measure, so that you understand in this allegory that the most excellent inheritance of the new Joseph - Christ is given to the pagans.
