Then the Prophet begins a prophecy about the Philistines. He calls the inhabitants of Ascalon, Gaza, Azoth, Gath, and Ekron Philistines. He also says that this prophecy was (Jer. 47:1) “before Pharaoh struck Gaza.” And he likens the Babylonian army to the stream that emerged from the banks, and the cities of the perishing inhabitants who are flooded by this stream, who raise a cry, and cannot hear the noise of weapons and chariots without horror; describes how fathers, out of fear, forgot the requirements of nature and neglect their sons. For he says: Jer.47:3. The fathers did not turn to their sons, they lowered their hands. (Jer.47:4). “On the day that comes, the hedgehog will destroy all the foreigners.” Predicts the death of the Tyrians and Sidonians, as those who came to their aid; for he says: “And I will destroy Tire and Sidon with the rest of their helpers, for the Lord will destroy the Philistines, the remains of the islands” and Cappadocian. In interpreting other Prophets, we showed that in ancient times Palestine was inhabited by aliens from Cyprus and Cappadocia. Jer.47:5. When baldness comes to Gaza, that is, Gaza will lose its former celebrity; Often this word means Prophet and lamentation; for he says: “Shave your head, and take your mourning in your mouth” (Jer. 7:29). “Ascalon was quickly rejected, and the remains of Enakimli.” The descendants of Enakim inhabited the area around Askalon. (Jer.47:6). How long will you gather together? “How long shall you sit 6by the sword” of the Lord? God called Nebuchadnezzar “the Sword of the Lord”; because he acted by God's permission; and the wicked are punished one by one for their wickedness. “Take your sheath, O rest, and be lifted up.” And showing who commanded the sword to act, he added: Jer.47:7. And the Lord commanded him against Ascalon, and against Mori, and against the rest go. Here the Prophet introduced personification in order to more clearly imagine that creation has a Ruler over it, and that its Creator rules over everything, and sometimes gives creatures an abundance of blessings, and sometimes allows them to fall into disaster.
