† Repose of Rev. Anthony Leokhnovsky The son of the Tver boyar children Veniaminov, and Anthony 239, out of love for the desert life, lived as a hermit 12 versts from Novgorod on the Perekhod River, in the Rublevaya Wasteland. When the Swedes left Russia and the devastated inhabitants began to return to their places, Anthony’s beloved student Gregory came to the ashes of the Anthony monastery; Having buried the bodies of the beaten brothers, he built himself a cell and a chapel near it in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord. A few years later, Anthony, who appeared to him in a dream, said: “Brother Gregory! go to Novgorod, tell Metropolitan Cyprian and the elders of the city to put me in the place of my monastery.” The vision was repeated three times, and on the third time the one who appeared threatened with punishment for disobedience.
