Eleazar and Nazarius were the founders of the Forerunner Monastery, located in Olonets district; they are called miracle workers, and the day of their death is shown as the 4th day of June. It is likely that they were disciples of Abba Lazar of Murmansk and labored in the 15th century, because they are also called those who came from Greece, like Lazar. The Monk Zosima, while still a young man, accepted monasticism at the Sinai monastery. Sent by his abbot to Alexandria on monastic affairs, he received episcopal rank from the Alexandrian Patriarch Apollinaris. In his old age he returned to Sinai and ended his life there. He lived in the 5th century, during the flourishing state of asceticism on Mount Sinai. From the life of Rev. Zosima recounts, among other things, one case that proves that even if those who have sometimes committed a crime escape exposure to people and the punishment of earthly justice, they cannot escape the judgment of their conscience, this instrument of Divine punishment, and a person cannot hide from the Redeemer not only in the afterlife, but, for the most part, during his existence on earth... One day, when Rev. Zosima was asceticizing in the Sinai desert, a former robber came to him and, pouring out his soul, burdened with many crimes, before the righteous elder, begged him to accept him as a monk, so that through hard work - monastic asceticism and tears of repentance - he could wash away his sins. Seeing the sincere repentance of the newcomer, having experienced it for some time, Zosima allowed him to accept monasticism. After some time had passed, the elder told the newcomer that it would be difficult for him to hide from people even here, since many come here, among whom people might meet who might recognize him as a former robber; therefore, he advised him to retire away from the monastery and himself took him to the desert monastery of Abba Dorotheus, near Gaza. He lived in this monastery for nine years, dooming himself to repentance, a robber; He zealously and unswervingly fulfilled all the skete obediences and after that he suddenly, unexpectedly left the skete and returned to the monk. Zosima and began to ask him to take back the monastic clothes from him and give him worldly ones for his return to the world... – What prompts you to give up the monastic life after so many years that you have endured it? – asked the surprised old man. “Yes, it’s been nine years since I started living in the monastery,” the former robber answered him, “I worked as much as I could; strictly observed abstinence, fasting and prayer; in silence, humility, I accepted and fulfilled all kinds of obedience, hoping and praying to God for only one thing, that His mercy would forgive me my former life... so that I could reconcile with myself... But no! I have not found peace or consolation in anything... The child I killed always persistently stands in front of me and says: “Why did you kill me?” I see and hear this in a dream and in reality... Whether I am standing at prayer in church, whether I am eating a meal with the brethren, whether I am walking somewhere along the road, and even when I approach the Divine Mysteries - all of it, all this child stands in front of me and asks me: “Why did you kill me?” Therefore, father, I want to go to where I committed atrocities... Let justice punish me! Seeing that he could not hold back a man whose soul was crying out for execution as the only means of pacifying him, the elder let him go... and the robber, betraying himself to human justice, was executed with a sword... he did not achieve his purification with tears, he only washed himself with blood... St. Blessed Payment, Bishop of Melevi Optatus, a bishop in Numidia, became famous for his active struggle against the Donatists - in the 2nd half of the 4th century. He successfully refuted them in his writings, which are respectfully spoken of by Jerome, Fulgentius, Augustine, Bishop of Hippo (June 15), who places Optatus on a par with Sts. Cyprian, Hilary and Ambrose. Optatus, in his essay against the Donatists, definitively reveals the concept of the true Church of Christ and proves that “those who separate from the Church dream in vain of salvation” 28. Matthew 26:6–13; from Mark Mark 14:3–9, - it is known that after the ascension of Jesus Christ to heaven, when, after the murder of Archdeacon Stephen, persecution began against the Church of Jerusalem, and St. Lazarus, having been expelled from Jerusalem, preached Christ in different countries, and his sisters, who believed in Christ even before His resurrection of their brother, helped Lazarus in preaching the Gospel.
