§ 131. Connection with the previous one and the composition of the doctrine From eternity, and therefore before we came into being and fell, the Omniscient and All-Good One had already determined to save us through his only begotten Son. Then, as soon as the fall of our forefathers took place, He began to prepare the human race to receive the Savior by all means, natural and supernatural. Finally, when the predetermined time was fulfilled, when the end of the summer had come, God sent his (only begotten) Son, born of a woman, being under the law, that he might redeem those under the law (Gal. 4:4.5), our Lord Jesus Christ appeared and truly accomplished our salvation. This last, briefly expressed, thought about our Lord Jesus Christ, which we must now begin to reveal, apparently consists of two parts: I) from the thought about the very Face of the Lord Jesus, i.e., about the sacrament of the incarnation, and II) from the thought about Him accomplishing our salvation, i.e., about the sacrament of atonement.
