1. Seventh vision. "The Prophecy of Moab" (Is. 15:1). Now the prophet speaks about the land of the Moabites, so that they will not be considered the culprits of what was predicted, and calculates the reasons for the punishment: firstly, he says, they are proud and slanderers, then they deserve punishment for the sake of Jerusalem. “Ar-Moab will be devastated and destroyed by night; So! Kir-Moab will be devastated and destroyed by night!” At night, the prophet denotes the wandering of passionate desire, as a result of which the death of the state occurs. 2–3. "He goes up to Bayit and Dibon, he goes up on the heights to weep" (Isa. 15:2): since he was an altar where altars were erected. "Moab weeps over Nebo and Medeva". When the enemy comes for a siege, you will flee from the cities to the mountains, to Mount Nabab, where Moses was buried. “All of their heads are shorn, all of their beards are shaved” - from helmets and the weight of weapons, although nothing can happen from this. “In its streets they girded themselves with sackcloth” (Isa. 15:3): in the streets where they worshiped idols. “On its roofs and squares everything weeps, drowns in tears”: on its roofs, where the heavenly army was revered. 4–5. “And Heshbon and Eleala cried; their voice is heard as far as Jaatza” (Is. 15:4), - in the outer cities surrounding Moab. “The soldiers of Moab are weeping after them,” namely, screaming and weeping came out of the Moabite square. “My heart weeps for Moab; they flee from it to Zoar” (Is. 15:5): the plagues intensified in Moab until Zoar, where Lot fled. “The youth is three years old” (these words are not in the Russian translation), i.e. in bloom, in strength, in maturity, in charms. The Prophet says: “They ascend Luhit weeping; along the Khoronaim road they raise a terrible cry” - because Aronim was located on a plain, and the road to it was on a mountain, so those fleeing from the fields ran near the mountains. But, not finding peace there, they fled to the mountains, as it is said above: “he goes up to the heights to weep” (Is. 15:2), - to the mountain and where more they were driven. “They raise a terrible cry; for the waters of Nimrim are dried up” (Isaiah 15:5–6). He calls water either the armies of cities, or the fact that when the robbers multiply, the waters decrease. 6–9. “The meadows have dried up, the grass has burned out, there is no more greenery.” It is clear that where countless troops are stationed, there is a paucity of grass and greenery. Even if they were saved under these conditions, however, “I will bring the Arabians into the wilds, and they will trouble them” (Is. 15:7); even though they, in the wilds and fortresses, remained unharmed by foreign robbers, however, they will not be able to get rid of the neighboring Arabs who know their fortifications. “For the cry has passed beyond the border of the land of Moab to Agallim” (Is. 15:8), due to the invasion of robbers on Moab and other nearby cities. "To the treasure trove of Eliml". “The waters of Dimon are filled with blood” (Is. 15:9). These, it seems to me, are two river streams where the fugitives fled, but the Arabs, familiar with the area, came here and killed the fugitives. Therefore, the prophet adds: “I will bring the Arabs against Dimon, and I will take the seed of Moab and Ariel and the remains of Adam, and I will send them to the world for the sake of poverty and vacillation.” You might be interested in:
