Изъяснение псалма 27-го.

Ps.27:1. To you, Lord, I call: my stronghold! do not be silent to me, lest in Your silence I become like those who go down to the grave. "Psalm to David." “To You, O Lord, I will cry, O my God, that you may not keep silence from Me; lest you keep silence from Me, and I will become like those who go down into the pit.” This psalm was spoken by David when he was persecuted by Saul, and imaginary friends plotted against him, denounced him, and tried to reveal it to Saul. Such was Doik, such were the Zithes, and besides them many others. Both this psalm and the psalms preceding it are appropriate for everyone who has fallen into similar calamities. For whoever wants, it is possible, like blessed David, to be patient, and to beg God, and to be worthy of His providence. The Prophet used the word “I will call”, meaning not a voice, but zeal, intense and zealous prayer. The turn of phrase: “don’t keep silent from Me” is borrowed from those who are asked, but they do not want to answer anything. Therefore, if “keep silent from Me,” and deprive me of Your help, says the Prophet, then I will immediately be put to death. He called it a ditch; because a grave is dug like a ditch. Ps.27:2. Hear the voice of my prayers when I cry out to You, when I raise my hands to Your holy church. “Hear, O Lord, the voice of my prayer; we always pray to You, always lift up my hands to Your holy church.” The church had not yet been built; the Prophet calls the tabernacle in which he prayed, being far from it with his body, but directing his mind there, as a church. So blessed Daniel, praying in Babylon, opened the windows facing Jerusalem, not in the assumption that the Divine would be described by a place there, but knowing the Divine appearance that took place there. Ps.27:3. Do not destroy me with the wicked and with those who do injustice, who talk about peace with their neighbors, but have evil in their hearts. “Do not bring me with sinners, and do not destroy me with those who do injustice, who speak peace with their neighbors, but evil is in their hearts.” Blessed David prays that he may not have any fellowship with those who act double-mindedly; he says: those who say one thing and think another are vile to me. For this reason, he wants them to reap the retribution corresponding to their undertakings. For he says: Ps.27:4. Reward them according to their deeds, according to their evil deeds; Repay them according to the works of their hands; give them what they deserve. “Give them, O Lord, according to their deeds and the wickedness of their undertakings, give them your hand according to their deeds, give them their reward.” Let no one think that a righteous man wishes harm to his enemies; because what he said is not malice, but a fair sentence. For he says: “Give them their reward,” that is, let them fall into their own intrigues, which they arrange for others. He said this in the seventh psalm: “his illness will return to his head, and his unrighteousness will come down to his top” (Ps. 7:17). Then he explains the reason for the punishment. Ps.27:5. Because they are not attentive to the actions of the Lord and to the work of His hands, He will destroy them and will not build them up. “For I have not understood the works of the Lord, nor the works of His hand.” This is what they did, says the Prophet, not wanting to study either the words or the works of God. For he did not say, “destroy,” but, “destroy and not build.” Потом, научаемый божественным откровением, и издалека предусмотрев будущую помощь, подвигнул язык к песнопению. Ps.27:6. Blessed be the Lord, for He has heard the voice of my prayers. Ps.27:7. The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and He helped me, and my heart rejoiced; and I will glorify Him with my song. “Blessed is the Lord, for he has heard the voice of my prayer.” “The Lord is my helper and my protector.” And showing the reason for the emergency, he added: “My heart trusts in Him, and help me, and prosper my flesh.” Hope in God was the reason for this providence for me. Why, having got rid of suffering in flight, I came to life, flourished and regained my former health due to complacency. “And by my will I will confess to Him,” that is, not forced, but voluntarily, I offer Him hymns. So in another place he says: “I will devour You as I please” (Ps. 53:8); and again: “The freedom of my lips, O Lord, pleases me” (Ps. 119:108). Ps.27:8. The Lord is the strength of His people and the saving defense of His anointed. “The Lord is the strengthener of His people and the protector of the salvation of His Christ.” I will praise Him as a good Lord, generously giving strength, strength and salvation to the king and the people. For he calls himself Christ, as a king; because this name was common to kings, prophets and priests. Ps.27:9. Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; feed them and raise them up forever! “Save Thy people, and bless Thy inheritance, and save me, and take me for ever.” Therefore, teach, he says, this blessing and salvation to Your people, governing them, shepherding them and making them conquerors of their enemies. And this prayer for the people is befitting of a king. It is worthy of surprise in the great David that even when persecuted by the people (because the people, together with Saul, armed themselves against David), he brings prayer to God for him.
