1 Thessalonians 5:1. And about the years and... times, brother, that is, when the time comes for this and when the time for the Antichrist comes, and how they were taught this from us, which we ourselves learned from the Gospel of our Lord, that the day of the Lord is like a thief in the night, when no one expects it, so he will come (Matthew 24:43). 1 Sol.5:3. For when they say: here is peace and security, then... they... will suddenly be overtaken by destruction, like the pangs of childbirth unexpectedly overtaken a pregnant woman, and they will not escape it. This is the same as what our Lord said: as it was in the days of Noah and Lot, when they ate and drank, married and were given in marriage, until the flood and fire came upon them and destroyed them all (Matthew 24:38-39). 1 Sol.5:4. But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that... that day doesn't catch you like a thief. 1 Sol.5:5. Like sons of light, store up the works of the light and look forward to that day of revelation (glory). 1 Sol.5:6. So let's not sleep regarding good living, 1 Sol.5:7. For those who sleep and get drunk, they sleep and get drunk at night, that is, they perform all deeds hostile to the light at night. 1 Sol.5:8. We, being the sons of the day, that is, sons of the Gospel, perfect, let us take upon ourselves helmet of life saving hope. 1 Sol.5:9. since [God] did not... ordain us... to wrath, life, that is: or so that we save our souls from the touch of lusts and live in our Lord; or that we might be saved through Him to live with Him in the resurrection. that is, whether we are alive or dead, He grants us to fly (to heaven) together. 1 Sol.5:11. Therefore, comfort one another and edify one another I wrote to you before, and so you did. 1 Sol.5:12. Be grateful to those who work for you who precede you in the Lord, that is, they pray to the Lord for you and teach you a virtuous life. 1 Sol.5:13. Abundant love make them close to you, and that is, for the sake of their good life, join them in order to receive benefit from them. 1 Sol.5:14. admonish, he says, the disorderly, who spend their lives idle and indulge only in empty pursuits. who mourned the loss of their favorite pleasures. be generous to everyone, who need your help. evil... for evil... do not repay, but always... pursue good, 1 Sol.5:16. And rejoice in everything, 1 Sol.5:18. And give thanks in everything, that is, for the persecution that is rising against you, and for the peace that surrounds you. For everything that happens to you, be grateful this happens to correct you and to test you. 1 Sol.5:19. Don't quench the spirit that is, those who speak in the tongues of the spirit, do not force them to remain silent. 1 Thessalonians 5:20. And prophecies, - either the ancients, or those of you who are worthy to be prophets, 1 Sol.5:21. Try everything again, and good, that is, consistent with the Gospel, 1 Sol.5:22. From all their evils, which are alien to your new faith, 1 Thessalonians 5:23. May the God of peace himself sanctify you and may He perfect you until the time of the end of the world. whole May your spirit and soul and body be preserved... without blemish, until the coming of our Lord. who will do it himself, and you will remain from baptism until the revelation of our Lord. 1 Thessalonians 5:27. I conjure you, brothers, to read this message before everyone and brothers, understand that when the whole church is gathered, since in this epistle the weak are strengthened and the sorrowful are comforted, the worthy are encouraged, and the idle and those who indulge in empty pursuits through this epistle may be advised to stop their vicious lives.
