(Rom. 10:1) However, “my prayer is to God for them,” that they may be saved and receive redemption. (Rom.10:2) For they manifest zeal for God, that they may keep His law, but they do not know Him. (Rom. 10:3) “For they do not understand” that very “righteousness of God,” which is accomplished through faith; “and their truth”, which is from “the law, they try to establish.” (Rom.10:4) “For the end of the law” which they have is “Christ.” He said exactly: he came. And so (Christ) came and established (the law); however, not by those who seek (legal) truth, but by those who believe in the truth. (Rom.10:5) “For Moses wrote thus, that whosoever doeth the righteousness which is of the law... shall live thereby” in this life (Lev.18:5). (Rom. 10:6) “But the truth which is of faith, thus teaching, says: (yes) thou shalt not say in thine heart, Who ascended into heaven and brought down Christ?” ( Rom. 10:7 ) “Or who went down into the abyss” of the underworld and raised up “Christ from the dead?” (Rom.10:8-10) But it was precisely these two truths by which they were tempted that faith approved (Deut.30:12-14). “For if you confess them in your heart, it is a heart that “believes in righteousness, and a mouth that confesses to life and salvation.” (Rom. 10:11) But so that they would not say that he preaches a new faith from his own mind, he cited evidence from “I am the Scripture, the saying of a man: whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame” (Is. 28:16). (Rom.10:12) And in this he made no distinction either between Jews or between Gentiles. “For one is Lord... of all,” and there is one door of life (John 10:7.9), which through faith is open to all; and He is ready to listen to every person who calls on Him. (Rom.10:13) Thus (for) it is written: “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Joel 2:32). (Rom.10:14) “How then will they call” those who are in Him? Even if they lived in faith, they “did not believe.” Or how will they believe the One “whom they do not want to hear? Or how will they hear without him preaching,” that is, without an interpreter, as Philip was to the Eunuch (Acts 8:27)? (Rom. 10:15) “How will they preach if they are not sent” to them, or, having been sent, do not remain with them? After all, they solemnly set out to walk among the Gentiles. Or he says that what should have been among them, it happened, and they did not want to follow the preachers, about whom it was written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of salvation and peace” (Is. 52:7)! (Rom.10:16) But just as at that time not everyone heeded the preaching of the prophets, so it is now. Also, this very thing that is not heeded now is not omitted from the prophecy, “for Isaiah says thus: Lord, who believed our hearing” (“heard from us” (Is. 53:1)))? (Rom. 10:17) “Therefore,” you see that “faith comes by hearing,” as now, but hearing comes by revelation (divine). (Rom.10:18) “But I say (ask): have not... the Jews heard”? – On the contrary, – for “the voice of the Apostles went through all the earth” (Ps. 18:5). (Rom.10:19) But perhaps when the world listened, Israel did not hear? - On the contrary, - for “before Moses said: I will arouse jealousy in you because of not the people, but mine, because of the people in foolish things ... I will provoke you to anger” (Deut. 32:21). (Rom.10:20) And Isaiah foretold and boldly said on behalf of the Son: “I would be revealed to those who do not seek... Me” (Is.65:1).
