“Hear the word of the Lord, the word of the Lord against you” (Jer. 10:1). There are two instructions in this part of the prophecy. One contains instruction for all Israel, namely, the tribes scattered among foreign nations. Their prophet clearly admonishes them to avoid serving idols and not to imitate the worshipers of vain gods; depicts to them the abundance of the glory of the Lord, God's greatness, God's strength and wisdom, pronounces such words that should turn them away from idolaters who are luring them into idolatry. Another instruction is addressed to the tribe of Judah, which, after the destruction of Samaria, remained in its land, and later, with Jehoiachin and Zedekiah, was taken to Babylon. Then the prophet cites the lament that was composed by the distressed people of Judah about their ruin and the great misfortunes that befell them: “Woe is me in my contrition; My ulcer is painful, but I said: .. this is my illness, I will endure it" (Jer. 10:19). So, as the prophet says, the people of Judah groaned when the city of Jerusalem was besieged by the armies of Nebuchadnezzar, and the inhabitants were languishing with thirst and severe hunger, and suffered various disasters. “My tabernacle is desolate, destroyed, and all its faith is torn to pieces.” Here Jerusalem and the church are called the tabernacle, and the surrounding cities, which served as ropes for Jerusalem, are called ropes. “There is no one... to spread My tabernacle and set up My tabernacles” (Jer. 10:20), either because the inhabitants died from the sword and hunger, or because their idols do not have the strength to repel the enemy and block the cracks in the walls.
