“A word on the land of Moab. In the night... the city of Moab perished, and the Moabites were horrified,” because their soothsayers had not announced in advance about the invasion of the devastators. “In the night... the wall of Moab perished, and they were amazed,” because their idols had not anticipated and revealed this to them. (Isa.15:1) “They go to the church of Divon... to the heights to cry over Navav and Midav,” that is, those who escaped from the sword went to the heights to cry in front of their idols about the disaster that befell them, to cry about Navav (Nevo) and Midav (Medev), their deities, taken captive. “Moab is weeping, there is baldness on every head.” Everywhere there is sobbing and lamentation, from the very church of idols. “All of his beards are shaved.” Fear and despair force everyone to shave their beards. “On the hills thereof, all of you will mourn with weeping” (Is. 15:2-3), - giving themselves up to flight. “Heshbon and Eleala cried out, until their voice was heard even to Jassa.” All the cities of Moab are crying, and the cry goes from city to city. “For this reason the soldiers of the Moabites cry out” (Is. 15:4), either because the soldiers themselves are deprived of their weapons, or under the grave sorrow of the soldiers the prophet depicts the cruel disaster of all the Moabites. “My heart weeps for Moab in its spirit,” because the prophet is with the Moabites in his spirit, and weeps for them. “Even to Zoar: the youth is three years old.” The prophet calls Zoar a three-year-old youth, either because it constituted a third of the possessions of the Moabites, or this means that, after three years, the glory of the Moabites will be desecrated. “When Luif ascends, they will come to you mourning,” that is, they will go into captivity with tears, “by the way of Aronia, we will cause the cry and destruction of those persecuted by enemies” (Is. 15:5). Perhaps these three cities: Zoar, Luif (Luchit) and Oronaim are the same ones, one of which is called by the prophet a three-year-old girl “Water.” Nemrimla will be desolate,” that is, the waters of Nemrim, which watered the land of Moab, will dry up. Or the prophet, under the image of a dried-up spring, represents the final disaster of the Moabites. “And the matter is at the stream of Arabia” (Is. 15:7), that is, their sins will lead them to the stream of Arabia. “For his cry will go...to Agallim, and his weeping even to the storey of Elim” (Is. 15:8), that is, weeping and crying will fill the entire country of Moab. “The waters of Dimon will be filled with blood: I will bring them against Dimon.” This depicts a great massacre, so that the water will spoil from human corpses. “I will think about those who escaped from Moab and the remnant of the land” (Is. 15:9), that is, the son of the ruler will return and go against those who escaped and remained on the earth.
