According to the unanimous inscription of the Hebrew, Greek Bible and the Vulgate, the psalm belongs to David and was written on the occasion indicated in the inscription: David pretended to be mad before Abimelech (the title of the Philistine kings, like Pharaoh of the Egyptians, his own name was Achish), which is why he, the recent winner of Goliath, was released. I sing praises to the Lord and invite all the righteous to praise Him, since He is their constant protector in times of disaster. He sends his angels to protect people (2–8). Everyone can be convinced by experience that the Lord protects those who fear Him (9-11). To earn such mercy from the Lord, you must have fear of Him and neither say nor do anything bad (12-15). The Lord has mercy and protects the righteous, no matter how difficult their situation may be, while the one who does evil perishes (16-23). Ps.33:3. In the Lord my soul will glory; The meek will hear and rejoice. “My soul will boast in the Lord” - Hebraism, you can translate “I will boast,” that is, I will always sing of the mercies that He has shown me. “All the meek” are the righteous who are in difficult situations. In God's protection to David, they will draw strength and courage to endure disasters, since they will have confidence that the Lord will help them too. Ps.33:6. Those who turned their gaze to Him were enlightened, and their faces would not be ashamed. “Their faces will not be ashamed” - faith in Him will never remain unjustified. Ps.33:8. The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them. “The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him” - the Lord places a Guardian Angel for every person, who serves for him the same as regiments of soldiers in the fight against enemies: he protects him from disasters. This reveals the peculiarity of the psalmists’ teaching about Angels, that they are protectors of people, while in other books of the Old Testament angels are depicted as servants and messengers of Jehovah, “temporarily” appearing to him, and not his permanent guardians and companions. Ps.33:9. Taste and see how good the Lord is! Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! David transfers this truth about God’s protection of a righteous person from the realm of faith to the realm of experienced knowledge: “taste and see” - try and see, be convinced of the truth of my words. Ps.33:10. Fear the Lord, [all] His saints, for there is no poverty among those who fear Him. Ps.33:11. The Skimns are in poverty and suffer hunger, but those who seek the Lord do not suffer the need for any good. Ps.33:12. Come, children, listen to me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord. “There is no poverty among those who fear Him” - is explained by the words of the following verse: “those who seek the Lord do not lack any good,” that is, the Lord gives the righteous even earthly well-being. From 12th century sets out the conditions that determine God's help to man. Ps.33:16. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are on their cry. Ps.33:17. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to destroy the memory of them from the earth. “The eyes of the Lord”, “His ears”, “the face of the Lord” - a humanoid representation of God as a being who is attentive to man. Ps.33:23. The Lord will deliver the soul of His servants, and none of those who trust in Him will perish. “The life of His servants” - the life of His servants, that is, the righteous.
