Prohibition for Jews to enter into alliances or kinship relations with the peoples living in the land of promise. Fulfillment of divine law as a condition for the blessed existence of Israel. Deut.7:1. When the Lord your God brings you into the land where you are going to take possession of it, and drives out from before you many nations, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations that are more numerous and stronger than you, Deut.7:2. and the Lord your God will deliver them to you, and you will defeat them, then you will consign them to destruction, do not enter into an alliance with them and do not spare them; Deut.7:3. and thou shalt not enter into kinship with them: thou shalt not give thy daughter to his son, and thou shalt not take his daughter to thy son; Deut.7:4. for they will turn your sons away from Me to serve other gods, and then the wrath of the Lord will be kindled against you, and He will quickly destroy you. The reason for the merciless extermination of the Canaanites during the conquest of Canaan and the prohibition of entering into allied or related relations with them after the conquest is clearly indicated by the fourth verse of this chapter. Deut.7:5. But do this to them: destroy their altars, break their pillars, cut down their groves, and burn their idols with fire; To avoid getting carried away with paganism. Deut.7:7. It was not because you were more numerous than all the nations that the Lord accepted you and chose you, for you are the fewest in number among all the nations, Compared to the powerful nations of the ancient world, Israel should indeed be called "small in number." Compared to what he represented at the time of the migration of the patriarchal family to Egypt, he truly multiplied “like the stars of heaven” (Deut. 1:10, 10:22) Deut.7:22. And the Lord your God will drive out these nations before you little by little; You cannot destroy them quickly, lest [the earth become empty and] the beasts of the field multiply against you; Wed.
