On the front side towards the east they set up a camp: the standard of the camp of Judah according to their armies, and the commander of the sons of Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab, Numbers 2:4. and his armies that were numbered thereof were seventy-four thousand and six hundred; Numbers 2:5. after him the tribe of Issachar pitched camp, and the leader of the sons of Issachar, Nathanael the son of Zuar, Numbers 2:6. and his armies that were numbered thereof were fifty-four thousand and four hundred; Numbers 2:7. Numbers 2:17. When the tent of meeting goes out, the camp of the Levites will be in the middle of the camps. As they stand, so they must go, each in his place with his banners. Numbers 2:18. Numbers 2:25. The banner of the camp of Dan towards the north, according to their armies, and the commander of the sons of Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai, Numbers 2:26. and his armies, which were numbered thereof, were sixty-two thousand and seven hundred; Numbers 2:27. The tribe of Asher camped next to him, and the chief of the sons of Asher, Pagiel the son of Okhran, Numbers 2:28. and his hosts that were numbered thereof were forty-one thousand five hundred; Numbers 2:29. then the tribe of Naphtali, and the chief of the children of Naphtali, Ahira the son of Anan, Numbers 2:30. and his armies that were numbered thereof were fifty-three thousand four hundred; Numbers 2:31. all those who were numbered in the camp of Dan were one hundred and fifty-seven thousand and six hundred; they must go last with their banners. Numbers 2:32. These are the children of Israel who were numbered according to their families. All those who were numbered in the camps, according to their armies, were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. Numbers 2:33. But the Levites were not included in the number along with the children of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses. Numbers 2:34. And the children of Israel did everything that the Lord commanded Moses: thus they encamped with their standards, and so they went every man according to his tribes, according to his families. In their march through the Arabian Desert, the Israeli people represented a properly organized army, divided into 4 parts, 3 knee regiments in each. The tribe of Judah was in the vanguard, with Zebulun on the right flank and Issachar on the left. The left side of the camp was covered by Dan, Asher, Naphtali; right - Reuben, Gad, Simeon. The rearguard consisted of: Ephraim, Manasseh, Benjamin.
