(Phil. 3, 1–8; Luke 7, 17–30) St. John the Baptist sends his disciples to ask the Lord: Is He “the One who is to come, or should we expect another” (Luke 7:19)? He did not ask this for himself, for he knew exactly who Jesus Christ was, having been informed about this from heaven, but for his disciples. And the disciples sought a solution to this issue not out of mutual questioning, but out of a sincere desire to know the truth. There is no need to say much to such people; The Lord does not speak, but only points out what He did at that time. Divine deeds testified to His deity. This was so obvious that those who asked did not ask any more questions. It's always like that. The power of God lives in the Church; a sincere seeker of truth immediately perceives it and is convinced of the truth. This experienced certificate puts an end to all questions and completely reassures. Whoever does not want to believe, and, having lost faith, begins to look in the Church and Christianity not for the basis of faith, but for reasons to justify his unbelief, no instructions seem satisfactory to him. He considers his unbelief to be well founded, even though its grounds are petty and insignificant. That’s what his heart wants, that’s why everything is bearable. You might be interested in:
