On October 6, 1910, the Council of the MDA decided: “To invite Vladimir Troitsky, a candidate and professorial fellow of the academy, graduating in 1910, to the first department of the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament, inviting him to devote the current 1910–1911 academic year to preparing for the occupation of the said department under the leadership of Honored Ordinary Professor M. D. Muretov, and at the end of the year to give two trial lectures in the presence of the Council.” 94. It should be noted that Vladimir Troitsky was supposed to replace Professor M.D. Muretov 95 at the department, who recommended him as his successor, noting in the young theologian “serious both linguistic and methodological preparation for the scientific study and academic teaching of the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament” 96. The first and second pulpits of the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament divided the content of the subject into two parts. The teacher of the second department read “about the Acts and Epistles of the Apostles and about the Apocalypse,” while the occupant of the first department taught “an introduction to the New Testament books and the Gospels; after esagogical and exegetical lectures on the Gospels” he set out “in a coherent, systematic form the history of the earthly life of our Lord Jesus Christ with a refutation of all false and blasphemous theories that are now being especially zealously disseminated” 97. On May 3, 1911, at a meeting of the Academy Council, Vladimir Troitsky gave two test lectures on the topics “Gnosticism and the Church in relation to the New Testament” and “The Son of God and the Church (interpretation of Matthew 16:13–18).” The topic of the first lecture was chosen by the subject himself, the second was assigned by the MDA Council. “Both lectures given by the professorial fellow Troitsky were unanimously recognized by the Academy Council as satisfactory, and the lecturer as worthy of election to the position of teacher of the academy in the 1st department of the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament, which has been vacant since the beginning of the 1911–1912 academic year” 98. The Holy Synod approved “the professorial fellow of the Moscow Theological Academy, candidate of theology, Vladimir Troitsky, as a teacher of the said academy in the 1st department of the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament with the rank of i. Associate Professor from August 16, 1911 The decree on this approval was read out at a meeting of the MDA Council on September 1 of the same year 99. Vladimir Alekseevich, with his characteristic self-irony, commented on his statement in the new position: “Yes, for three days now the abomination of scientific desolation has appeared in my person at the first department of the New Testament” 100.
