The Day of the Elderly in the Romanian Patriarchate and internationally is celebrated on the first day of October.
The holiday was instituted by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2023, dedicated to the pastoral care of the elderly.
At the same time, at an international level, October 1st promotes the rights of the elderly by encouraging active participation in economic, political, social and cultural life.
The Day of Older Persons aims to promote a positive perspective on ageing, free from discrimination.
According to the United Nations, the day is marked this year under the theme "The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives", which focuses on how policies can help increase longevity.
A source of blessing At the spring conference of clerics from the Archdiocese of Bucharest, held in 2023, Father Patriarch Daniel emphasized the spiritual significance of the presence of the elderly in the lives of young people.
