The International Day of the Carpathian Mountains is celebrated in the seven countries that have acceded to the Carpathian Conventiontranslated

The International Day of the Carpathian Mountains, marked annually on September 26, was established by the signatory countries of the Carpathian Convention (2006): Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania and Serbia.

The purpose of the day is to make society aware of the importance of this mountain range of approximately 1,500 kilometers in length.

The Carpathian Convention met on September 7-8, 2026 in Vienna, where common measures to strengthen biodiversity conservation and regional partnerships were discussed.

Nature and culture The Carpathians represent one of the most important mountain ecosystems in Europe and are home to important animal species such as the brown bear, the wolf and the lynx.

The Carpathians played an important role in the formation and preservation of the cultural identity of the communities living in the region. That is why this year's theme of the day is marked in Ukraine under the title: "The commons of cattle breeders: Where nature meets culture".
