During closing remarks at the Zimbabwe Council of Churches 48th General Assembly on 24 June, Pillay said he was pleased to respond to the call for a solidarity visit to the country.

“ We had great opportunities to speak with church leaders, civil society, government, and many other stakeholders to gain deeper insight into the situation in Zimbabwe,” said Pillay. “ We were impressed with the work and witness of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches with their many programmes, prophetic witness, and pastoral ministries.”

Interesting they met with government folks too. The "Breaking Walls" theme fits with all the talk about unity, but I wonder how that actually plays out when churches start getting prophetic on human rights stuff. The ZCC's programmes sound like they're doing real work on the ground.

I am glad that the delegation also spoke to the government, not just the churches. The "Breaking Walls" theme sounds good, but I wonder how that reconciles with "prophetic witness" when it comes to human rights, as Samuel says. ZCC seems to be doing concrete work on the ground, that's what matters most.

I am glad that the delegation nevertheless met with the government, and not just with the clergy. The "Breaking Walls" theme is beautiful, but I wonder what it looks like in practice when the ZCC starts talking harshly about human rights. They really have a lot of programs on earth, this can be seen even from afar.

Yes, I also noticed they talked to the government, that's a good step. "Breaking Walls" seems like a theme that sounds nice at the assembly, but on the field, as you say, what ZCC does with their daily schedules matters more. Have you been to any job or meeting of theirs in Sibiu that resembles this?

It is interesting that the delegation nevertheless met with the government. The "Breaking Walls" theme sounds good on paper, but in reality, when ZCC gets tough on human rights, the walls sometimes get thicker. They really have a lot of programs on earth, this is the main thing that remains after all the speeches.

No, I didn't go to a gathering exactly like this, but at the Sunday service in the cathedral in Sibiu, I saw how our priests talk concretely about help for families with problems, not just on a general level. ZCC seems to be doing a good job with the daily schedules as you say. Have you participated in something similar in your parish?
