In Kalmykia, on September 10, they celebrate the church celebration of the Appearance of Christ the Savior in Elista, associated with the events of 1946. According to the Tsargrad TV channel, 26 people witnessed what happened in the Holy Cross Church. The date of the celebration was set with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia after the initiative of the Elista diocese and its head, Archbishop of Elista and Kalmyk Justinian (Ovchinnikov).

According to church tradition, the phenomenon occurred during a service in Elista in post-war 1946. At that time, the Kalmyk people were deported to Siberia, and in the region, severe drought was added to the consequences of the Great Patriotic War. The believers gathered in the church saw Christ in priestly vestments - a tunic and stole, with guards on his hands. Eyewitnesses also described the image of the head of John the Baptist.
