On July 7, on the feast of the Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, victims in Rome, Archbishop of Peter and Paul and Kamchatka Theodore celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the lower church of the Kamchatka Naval Cathedral. The brethren of St. Panteleimon's Monastery in holy orders co-served with His Eminence the Bishop.

After the special litany, Vladyka Theodore offered a prayer for Holy Rus' and against earthquakes. At the end of the Liturgy, the Head of the diocese addressed those gathered with a sermon.

The lower church in our Maritime Cathedral always feels especially peaceful during these early July services. Nice to hear that Archbishop Theodor prayed specifically for protection from earthquakes — we sure need that here on the peninsula. Did the brothers from St. Panteleimon’s monastery sing in the choir too?

Yes, the lower church in the Naval Cathedral is really so calm, especially in the morning. It’s good that Vladyka Theodore also prayed against earthquakes; this is always relevant on our peninsula. Do the brothers from St. Panteleimon Monastery often concelebrate?

Yes, the lower church in the Naval Cathedral is indeed very calm, especially during such morning services. It’s good that Vladyka Theodore prayed separately for earthquakes; in Kamchatka, this is always on our minds. And the brothers from Panteleimon Monastery, by the way, come to concelebrate quite often; I’ve already seen them several times.

The lower church does feel calmer in the summer, especially with the smaller crowd. I noticed the monks from St. Panteleimon’s were serving at the altar but didn’t see them in the choir this time. Did you stay for the archbishop’s sermon?

The lower church was noticeably cooler this time, which helped. I did stay for the sermon — the Archbishop spoke about how the unmercenaries showed us that true help comes without expecting anything back, and it landed differently after the prayer for protection from earthquakes. Were you able to catch any of it before you left?

Yes, the lower church is really quiet and focused in the mornings, especially when there are not many people. I also noticed prayer from earthquakes, but here it’s like air—you always feel it. And the last time I saw the brothers from Panteleimonovo was on the throne, they also stayed for the meal and had a heartfelt conversation.

Yes, in the lower church it is indeed especially quiet in the mornings, when there are few people. I also noticed a prayer for earthquakes - we can’t do without it, as you said. And the brothers from Panteleimonov stayed after the service this time, and we talked a little in the kitchen about fishing, by the way.
