The Jerusalem Patriarchate continues to reform the affairs of St. Gerasimos Monastery

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to protecting its church properties across the Holy Land, including the Deir Hajla (St. Gerasimos) Monastery in the Jordan Valley. The Patriarchate stated that its properties and endowments face continuous targeting attempts.

It clarified that Deir Hajla was established in 455 AD, and that its late superior, Archimandrite Chrysostomos, spent over 55 years in service to the Church. Following his passing, the Patriarchate initiated administrative and financial procedures to reorganize and normalize the monastery’s affairs.

The Patriarchate noted that following the late Archimandrite’s death, certain parties have sought to fabricate and circulate rumors across social media platforms in an attempt to pressure the Patriarchate into rolling back its administrative and financial reforms at the monastery.

Furthermore, it emphasized that managing monastic affairs and transfers, as well as enforcing administrative and financial controls across its institutions and monasteries, falls strictly under the Patriarchate’s sole authority, and outside interference will not be tolerated.
