"Let's entrust our joys and sorrows to the Mother of God, and she will place them before her Son," Archbishop Varsanufie of Râmnic urged on Sunday.

His Eminence officiated the Holy Liturgy at the Archbishop's Cathedral in Râmnicu Vâlcea, on the occasion of the celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God Prodromită.

The Most Reverend Father Varsanufie showed that the Old Testament contains numerous preconceptions of the Mother of God, through which God announced the mystery of the Incarnation of His Son: "She is Jacob's ladder, on which God descends to man and man is raised to God."

"The Most Holy Theotokos is the animate ark, bearer not of the tablets of the Law, but of the Giver of the Law Himself."

At the same time, the Archbishop of Râmnic emphasized that the true greatness of the Mother of God springs from full obedience to God: "Through humility she became more capacious than the heavens, because she received in her bosom the One whom the heavens cannot contain".
