Tuesday marked 30 years since Metropolitan Laurentiu of Transylvania was ordained a bishop.
He was born on October 12, 1947, in the town of Sâmbăta de Sus in Brașov county. After secondary school studies in his hometown and high school studies in Făgăraș, he attended the University Theological Institute in Sibiu, which he graduated in 1969 with a thesis dedicated to the priest's pastoral ministry.
In December of the same year, he was ordained a priest at the Lisa Parish in the Făgăraș Diocese, where he worked for six years.
Professor and researcher in the liturgical field The academic course continued at the University Theological Institute in Bucharest, where he specialized in Liturgy, Pastoral and Christian Art. In 1982-1983 he attended courses at the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey, in Switzerland, and later specialized in the liturgical field in Friborg.
In 1985, he defended his doctoral thesis, with the theme "Baptism in different Christian liturgical rites", elaborated under the guidance of father Ene Braniște.
