On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Blessed Father Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, received, at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest, the visit of Lord Stelios Angeloudis, the Mayor of the city of Thessaloniki in Greece.

The meeting was also attended by Her Excellency Ms. Evangelia Grammatika, the Ambassador of Greece in Romania, Mr. Vasilis Gakis, the Vice-Mayor of the city of Thessaloniki for Culture, Tourism Development and Cooperation between Municipalities, and Mr. Anastasis Douros, the Director of the Aghioritic Center in Thessaloniki.

After the welcome speech, His Beatitude Father Patriarch Daniel highlighted the cultural, academic and spiritual ties established over time between Romania and the city of Thessaloniki, underlining the fact that a significant number of Romanians, especially students and researchers in the field of theology, choose to pursue university studies in this important center of Orthodox theological education, many of them receiving scholarships from the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Greece.
