Dear brothers and sisters!

I sincerely congratulate the residents of Simbirsk-Ulyanovsk on City Day!

Today there are many wonderful and interesting events dedicated to the history and present day of our city. We thank our contemporaries and celebrate their successes in various fields. And we remember the pages of the history of the Simbirsk land, the good deeds of those who lived and worked here before us - Russian soldiers, builders, educators, philanthropists, industrialists, cultural and artistic figures. A good rule in Christianity is to always remember your mentors and strive to imitate them. God grant that we be worthy heirs and be able to increase the good deeds of our predecessors for the benefit of our native land.

I would like to remind you that the history of every Russian city is also the history of holiness. That is why the Orthodox Church, our metropolitanate, celebrates today the day of the Council of Simbirsk Saints.

Among the heavenly patrons of the Simbirsk land are Blessed Andrei of Simbirsk, Venerable Confessor Gabriel of Melekess, Venerable Martyr Catherine and other new martyrs and confessors of the 20th century. Let us pray to our saints that they will strengthen us in our faith and help us in good...
