Pourquoi l’Église orthodoxe commence-t-elle l’année le 1ᵉʳ septembre ?

Le 1ᵉʳ septembre, les livres liturgiques de tradition byzantine annoncent le « début de l’Indiction, c’est-à-dire de la nouvelle année ». Pour les Églises qui suivent le calendrier julien, ce jour tombe le 14 septembre du calendrier civil. Alors que le monde fête le nouvel an le 1er janvier, l’Église orthodoxe ouvre donc son année à la fin de l’été. Ce décalage a une histoire précise, celle du fisc romain
