Pope Leo XIV visits sanctuary dedicated to the Trinity near Rome

Pope Leo XIV has made another visit to a pilgrimage site while on vacation at Castel Gandolfo in Italy, stopping at the Sanctuary of the Most Holy Trinity in Vallepietra.

As announced by the Holy See Press Office, the pontiff traveled to the mountainside town on the morning of July 22. There, according to the announcement, he stopped to pray before a famous fresco of the Holy Trinity and afterward greeted the faithful present.

Vallepietra is about 37 miles east of Rome, and its Sanctuary of the Most Holy Trinity is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in the Lazio region. The exact dates of its construction are unknown.

Leo’s visit to Vallepietra follows his visit to the Benedictine Abbey of Montecassino on July 20, where he prayed before the tomb of St. Benedict of Nursia.

Larisa MunteanuI am glad that Pope Leo XIV stopped to pray at the fresco of the Holy Trinity in Vallepietra. It's nice that he also went to the tomb of Saint Benedict two days before - that place is full of peace. Is that fresco the old one, from the 15th century?
