Patriarch of Romania: Young people are the active and creative present of the Church

Patriarch Daniel of Romania has sent a message of blessing to students, professors and parents ahead of the 2026–2027 academic year, emphasizing the importance of combining intellectual development with spiritual formation and Christian values.

In his message, issued on Thursday, September 24, the Patriarch expressed his hope that students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies would become a source of joy for their families, teachers, the Church and Romanian society through wisdom, virtuous living and steadfast faith.

Referring to the Holy Synod’s decision to dedicate 2026 to the pastoral care of the Christian family and the commemoration of holy women in the Orthodox calendar, Patriarch Daniel stressed the importance of preserving the enduring values of Christian family life.

He noted that young people are naturally drawn to ideals and seek both spiritual guidance for their future and high-quality intellectual education.

According to the Patriarch, Orthodox students are called to discover and bear witness to the love of the crucified and risen Christ, whose humility and mercy liberate people from selfishness and bring peace and joy to families and communities.…
